Seismic data is a crucial geophysical method across multiple industries, but in particular is a mainstay in hydrocarbon exploration and development. As the geothermal industry grows in all its forms (power, heating, mineral extraction) and the world works to meet our its lower emissions targets, the geological settings for geothermal are no longer restricted to niche environments where high enthalpy systems occur. More sedimentary basins are being explored and therefore seismic data is becoming a pivotal geophysical method for exploration and development. Advances in the application of seismic data in hard rock environments have meant this is applied more in this area too.
It is vital to be able to integrate this data in an environment where multidisciplinary data can be examined and interpreted in a way in which each data source has a voice. Geothermal by its nature demands this multidisciplinary approach where geological, geophysical, geochemical and reservoir engineering data all needs to be considered in any decision-making process.
It also important that downstream tools like flow simulation can make use of a comprehensive conceptual model and ensure dynamic modelling considers the properties and physical characteristics of the subsurface.
With the latest release we are excited to be able to bring seismic data directly into Leapfrog for the first time. With our interactive 2D and 3D SEG-Y reader, geoscientists can visualise and conduct basic interpretation with depth converted seismic data in the context of a multidisciplinary 3D model. Now with our other file import capabilities we can take interpretations from other packages and bring them into the automated, implicit modelling Leapfrog environment, with the SEG-Y data right there.
